I have been wanting to get on two wheels for years now. Back in my Sophomore year of College I almost bought a friends Honda CBR 600 F2. He ended up selling it to another friend of ours. Then he and I briefly discussed me buying his GSX-R 600 Alstare edition from him… that fell through he sold it to somebody else and bought his Honda 929. So a few more years passed and I got the chance to buy that F2 again. So I did it and I have been loving the experience, mostly.
She needs a little TLC yet, maybe some new plastics. Other than a real snafu with the oil pan she has been a solid bike (threads on the pan got stripped at some point before or after I acquired her and she was leaking from the plug. Bought a used pan that ended up being cracked, and now she is on stands waiting for a BRAND new pan to arrive and be installed). I am installing an APT manual CCT (Cam Chain Tensioner) as she is a bit chattery.
It has been exciting so far. Just need to find a suitable bike for the wife and we’ll be good to go.
I will say though after you find that bike, remember ATGATT. Gear will save your life. Get a good helmet, jacket, gloves, and boots that cover the ankle at a MINIMUM. Although pants with CE armor inserts are a really good idea too.
Also last fall (November) I sold my Mazdaspeed6 and bought an F-150. Totally different worlds I know, but this is also something I have wanted for a long time. I love the truck. It is amazing how much use you find for one after you get it! Probably going to pick up some lumber to build a work bench with today after work as a matter of fact!
