In the past year or so I have picked up the “hobby” of smoking cigars. I will say that I have always hated cigarettes and cigarette smoke. However cigars and pipes are quite a bit different. I have enjoyed the cigars and they are nice socially or for after a long day at work to unwind. So far I have sampled a few different brands searching for what I like.

  • AVO, first cigar I am not really sure what type it was.
  • PADRON 3000
  • Helix Remix Amaretto Petite Corona 5″1/4 *44
  • Cusano 18 Churchill 7″1/4 * 50
  • Romeo y Julieta 1875
  • AVO Classic Piramides
  • Helix Maduro x652 6″ * 52
  • Cuvée Blanc Toro Gordo 6″ * 54

So far my favorite has been the AVOs. However they are approximately twice the price of (sometimes three times) any of the other cigars on the list. This is okay for smoking fewer than 3 cigars a week I don’t mind paying a little more for them. So far I have mostly stuck with mild to mild-medium cigars although I have tried a few draws from a full bodied cigar (which the name of escapes me!). I am hoping to expand to some medium cigars soon.

Now I can’t really review them at all because as I mentioned I really don’t know anything. However I have found some youtube videos where some of the cigars have been reviewed and I am inclined to agree.

This is for the Gispert Maduro cigar. While mine wasn’t a Maduro my thoughts are about the same. I wasn’t overly pleased with it and probably won’t buy them again and instead opt for the Helix Maduro in that similar price range. This is interesting because this review is by a “chick”. This the Robusto version of the AVOs I have had. She doesn’t actually smoke it here but watch her channel because I am betting she will be reviewing it soon. She touched on the Padron 2000 which is (I think?) really similar to the Pardon 3000 series. This was a medium-full cigar and I think I would have enjoyed it more if it had not been my 2nd cigar. She isn’t any where as detailed as Walt was but I will have to watch for more. Her blog has a little more detail, but not much.

The Cuvée I had (I have 3 more to try) was okay. I had a little trouble keeping it burning and I think that it needed to be a little drier than it was. My humidor is sitting right around 71% RH. It was enjoyable other than that. I am not sure what to say about it but it was a good smoke for the links.

My second favorite has to be the Cusano 18s. I have had two of them and both were very enjoyable. I’d say they are very comparable to the AVOs but a little cheaper. The Romeo y Julieta was also very nice a very good companion on the golf course as well. There will be some more information coming as I smoke them or find the reviews online.
